"I don't know how I would have gotten through Brandy's last months without Marie."
Brandy was my tiny Miniature Chihuahua, my shadow, my baby, and my best friend for many years. When she was diagnosed with cancer, my heart broke. One of the hardest things was watching her struggle to eat. We lived in Florida at the time, and whenever Brandy would stop eating, I would call Marie. She would do Reiki for her from Pennsylvania, and I know this sounds unbelievable, but Brandy would start eating again. It happened over and over. It felt like a miracle every single time.
As Brandy's cancer progressed, she was in more pain and had trouble moving around. When we returned to Pennsylvania for the season, Marie would come to see her every day, sometimes even twice a day, and give her Reiki. You could actually see the difference. Brandy would relax, her breathing would soften, and she seemed peaceful again. What amazed me most was that even when she could barely walk, if she knew Marie was in the house, she would somehow get up and make her way across the room to be with her. There was a connection between them that I can't fully explain.
On the day we had to say goodbye, Marie was right there with us, giving Brandy Reiki and helping keep her calm, comfortable, and surrounded by love. Her ability to connect with animals is uncanny. She seemed to understand what Brandy needed without a word being spoken.
I truly believe that because of Marie's Reiki and support, Brandy had an extra three to six months of good quality time with us. Those months were a gift I will always treasure.
After Brandy passed, Marie didn't disappear. She stayed with me through my grief, helping me figure out what to do next and supporting me through one of the hardest losses of my life.
As a Cuban woman, family means everything to me, and Brandy was family. Marie treated her with the same love, dignity, and respect that she would have given any member of my family. This journey would have been very different without her, and I will always be grateful for her kindness, her compassion, and her presence during Brandy's final chapter.
